Summer Open Gyms

Open gyms for Saint Basil students only will be scheduled on the following dates/times:


July 8 - 5pm-7pm
July 10- 5pm-7pm
July 15- 5pm-7pm
July 17- 5pm-7pm
July 22- 5pm-7pm--9th only
July 24- 5pm-7pm--10th,11th,12th only
July 29- 5pm-7pm
July 31- 5pm-7pm

All interested in playing volleyball at SBA are welcome.

 

PHYSICAL FORMS DUE AT TRYOUTS

For those trying out this fall, you must bring TWO copies of your physical form to tryouts on the first day. 

DO NOT MAIL THE FORM OR DROP IT OFF.  PLEASE BRING TWO COPIES ON THE FIRST DAY OF TRYOUTS TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS.

THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.  IT IS REQUIRED BY THE STATE TO BE COMPLETED BEFORE TRYOUTS BEGIN.  THEREFORE IF THIS IS NOT TURNED IN AT TRYOUTS, YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO TRY OUT.  NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

Tryouts are scheduled

Tryouts will be scheduled on August 11 & 12 from 4pm-9pm.  Players will be given a chance to take a break from 615-645pm.

After the conclusion of the first day of tryouts, a subset of the tryout group will be posted to return to continue trying out on Tuesday.  At the end of the tryouts on Tuesday, the players that will comprise JV and Varsity will be posted.

 

Also, a note to all players.  Practices WILL BE HELD on MOST SUNDAYS during the season.  Please plan accordingly.

 

 

Reminders from the meeting

1.  Workout numbers must be obtained at 225 points.  If you are physically unable to participate (doctors' note required) we will come up with a supplementary way to earn points for the parts you cannot do.

2.  Juniors and Seniors MUST make Varsity workout numbers (225 points).  10th grade can make the JV numbers of 190 points, but will not be considered for Varsity.

3.  As always, 9th graders are exempt, but should consider trying the workout.

4.  JUNIORS/SENIORS are no longer considered for Junior Varsity.  They MUST make Varsity to continue with the program.  The reason being is that we must ensure the program has room for the incoming players and those moving up.  However, ANY grade (9-12) can play Varsity if they earn it.

Workout numbers

Physical Fitness reminder:

You need 225 points.  Some common examples are:

28 Pushups, 63 Situps, 18:06 run (average all)

42 pushups, 63 situps, 20:24 run (high pushups, average situps, low run)

28 pushups, 78 situps, 20:24 run (average pushups, high situps, low run)

13 pushups, 69 situps, 16;36 run (low pushups, med-high situps, high run)


These are merely examples.  1 bonus point is provided for everythign over the max
(max pushups are 42, max situps 78, fastest run is 15:36. (for every 3 seconds better it is one bonus point)

Pushups will be measured this year VERY STRICT as the past few years, they have not been as strict. 
Elbow, 90 degrees on the down, fully extended on the way up

Situps will require elbow to knee touch.

 

Workout week scheduled

Workout week is NOT mandatory for any player per rule.

However, physical fitness tests need to be completed prior to the end of the tryout period.

Workout week will be scheduled from August 4-8 from 4pm-6pm.
